“Silent Night” is a timeless Christmas carol, first composed in 1818 in the Austrian village of Oberndorf. The melody was created by Franz Xaver Gruber, and the original German lyrics, “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,” were written by Joseph Mohr, a priest at the local church.
