Spectacle of Trees set up to help nonprofits
The annual Spectacle of Trees in front of Ten Pin Eatery at the Cape Cod Mall offers a chance to win trees full of gifts created as fundraisers by local nonprofits. Among the chosen groups this year are Marstons Mills Public Library, Kiwanis Club of Hyannis and Ovarian Cancer 101. The library tree, for example, has a Grinch theme and includes a trip, small appliances, electronics and gift cards.

Gingerbread Lane opens at the Harbor Overlook
Artist shanties in Hyannis will be transformed into whimsical gingerbread houses at the Harbor Overlook, featuring artists' handmade and crafted items for sale. Hyannis Public Library has set up a bilingual StoryWalk of pages from "My Snow Day/Meu Dia de Neve," by Ally Nathaniel,with a free book and craft offered while supplies last. The library and Marstons Mills Public Library will offer a shanty decorated for a photo op with a Hogwarts holiday scene, with a free book and Harry Potter-themed craft available.There will also becaroling karaoke and "Happy Cabbage Patch" puppet theater shows. Hot food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Nearby, the Hyannis HyArts Campus will offer open studios and sales of items like paintings, ornaments and pottery at the Anne Tochka Gallery,Guyer Barn Community Art Space, Mellissa Morris,andCarolyn Ferrell, Graceful Fire Glass, Garage Studio. Artists from Cape Cod Creativeswill have a create-your-own holiday wrapping print activity to benefit Cape Kids Meals and mini-photo sessions for pets (advance registration required).

Artists offer new ornaments for the season
The Art Gallery of the Guild of Harwich Artists will again hold a Holiday Ornament Sale through the weekend before Christmas, with 80 guild members painting to continually refreshing the selection of more than 100 ornaments offered at a time. Each is a hand-painted miniature oil or framed watercolor painting, available for $15 each. Proceeds will be shared with a local charity.

Mashpee Commons lights a tree and welcomes Santa
The holiday season kicks off Friday at Mashpee Commons, with an annual gathering with coffee, cocoa, treats and caroling before the shopping center’s Christmas tree is lit. Santa Claus will make an appearance before settling in for a season-long visit.

15th annual Holidays at Highfield begin
Highfield Hall & Gardens will open its doors Friday for the three-weekend Holidays at Highfield celebration. This 15th annual event will feature the theme of “Season of Joy,” and event stylist Rita Pacheco has blended what is described as old world charm with contemporary elements for the decorating. There will be displays, activities, live music, storytelling and visits with Santa. Outdoors, a miniature holiday “village” will be installed in and around the Patrick Dougherty Stickwork sculpture (“A Passing Fancy”) on the front lawn.

Cataumet, Pocasset artisans hold open housesand exhibits
Several art venues in the Cataumet Arts Center and other Cataumet locations will hold open studios, art festivities and exhibits Friday through Sunday to herald in the holiday season.The Cataumet Arts Center, 76 Scraggy Neck Road, will hold an open house with 40 local artist and artisans’ works on view, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.Tuff Kakooshka, 1337 County Road,will have creative handmade fleece wear, children's wear and totes from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Provincetown Lobster Pot Tree to be lit
A two-story “tree” created from more than 100 lobster pots will be lit for the season, following a tradition started in 2004 by artist Julian Popko as a way to recognize the town’s hardworking lobstermen. After his death in 2017, Popko’s family has continued to build the tree every year. The tree has about 140 lobster traps, 3,600 LED lights and more than 100 red bows and has becomeas much a part of the season as the Provincetown Monument strung with lights.
