  Williams won't pitch Sunday after the Guardians' contest with the Astros was cancelled due to inclement weather.

  Williams was expected to pitch the bulk role out of the bullpen after opener Nick Sandlin, but he will now go into the postseason with additional rest after Sunday's cancellation. Williams will finish his 2024 regular season having produced a 4.86 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 79 strikeouts over 76 innings in 16 starts with Cleveland.

  Sandlin will make his second start of the regular season Sunday, with Gavin Williams expected to serve in bulk relief. Sandlin's first start came Aug. 26 against the Royals, when he allowed two walks while striking out two batters in one scoreless inning.   Lively didn't have his best stuff for his final regular-season start as the four walks tied a season high. It's a tough ending for what has otherwise been a great season for the 32-year-old. Lively heads into the playoffs with a 3.81 ERA over 151 innings in his first season with the Guardians.

  Ramirez went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Astros.

  Ramirez was held hitless for just the fifth time in September over 24 games. He's batting .295 (28-for-95) this month while adding seven steals on 10 attempts. Ramirez has a career-high 41 steals this season, but his pursuit of a 40-40 campaign is running out of time -- he's at 38 homers with two games left on the schedule. The third baseman has added a .277/.334/.530 slash line, 115 RBI, 113 runs scored, 38 doubles and two triples over 157 games, matching his career high in games played for the third time, having previously reached the mark in 2018 and 2022.

• Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Hit hard in loss

  Cantillo (2-4) took the loss Friday against Houston, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out seven.

  The Cleveland southpaw entered this contest on a hot streak, posting a 1.10 ERA across 16.1 innings in September, but he struggled in this 93-pitch outing. Cantillo got a taste of what the playoffs could look like as the Astros laced three doubles off him out of their six total base knocks. The 24-year-old did manage to salvage his outing slightly by notching six or more punchouts for the fourth consecutive start. Cantillo wraps up his rookie campaign with a 4.89 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB across 38.1 innings.
